M a s t

Yesterday Puddles had a bit of a break through. He descided that he was ok with the feal of playdough, usually one poke and he can't stand the stuff on his fingers. Yesterday he spent quite a while making tiny rugby ball shapes, and he identified them as rugby balls which took me by surprise, don't know where he knew that from!

Today with the play dought I squashed it flat and then Puddle made some inprints with the star biscuit cutter (photos on the camera but I can't get them on to the computer!)

Using a cut up cerial box I made flash cards of the letters A M T S, after showing them each in turn and telling Puddles the sound they make, I layed them down on the floor and asked him where each letter was. Hes good with "A" but the rest is a bit hit and miss.

I also made cards with numbers 1 - 6 with the relevant amount of dots on each and he put small wooden lady birds on each dot. He seamed to enjoy doing this.

Puddles REALLY liked cbeebies numtums so hes been using the numtums website games which are good for him as only the space bar is needed he doesn't need any computer dexterity.

We also Made Oat honey and banana cookies.

Pre heat the oven to 170

  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 mashed ripe banana
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup oats
Bake for 10 mins! nomnom!

I think next time I will put more banana and honey and less flour.

I also made Falafal from scratch for the first time

Rince and put one tins worth of chickpeas in boiling water and simmer for an hour. Drain and add in one finely chopped leak 1.5 tsp of corriander and 1.5tsp of cumin, 2 cloves garlic, 2 tsp gram flour, 2 tbs olive oil and 4 tbs warm water. Salt and Pepper. Mash it all up, put in to balls and slightly flatten them, then fry in olive oil for 5 mins each side.

They were nice but next time I will add more salt and some lemon juice.

I have just seen a video on youtube that shows pounding playdough, the lady sujested that to move on from this you can use a hammer and pound golf tees in to the playdough. I have just bought Puddles some golf tees for another game so we shall be having a go at that soon!

I set my self a Haloween resolution, (no point in waiting till New Year!) to read a chapter of a book a day. At the moment I am reading You are Your Child's First Teacher by Rahima Baldwin Dancy, as well as a book on vaccinations and one about teaching Montessori in the home.

Yesterdays chapter was about the importance of story telling, talking about how smaller children like repetition so enjoy stories like Three billy goats gruff. It also said how children don't mind drama as long as you don't dramatise it to much in your voice. It went on to talk about children not minding cruelty when it is bestowed upon the evil in the book, (the witch being burned in Hansel and Gretal.) Still, I think I will leave scaryer childrens stories till Puddle is older and can communicate his worried and fears a bit better.

I found the part where it talked about memorising stories and reading then with out the book helps you and your child connect very interesting. Its an activity I will be trying with Puddle. This activity can be extended by using floor puppets. I plan to make him some wooden cloth peg puppets for xmas, those will do nicely!

Today's chapter was about Artistic creativity. Concentrating on visual art. It covered in detail wet on wet painting which I have heard about being used in Enki and would like to know more about. In this method of painting you use wet good quality water colour paper and watered down artist quality water colours. The point of the exercises at Puddles age is to watch the colours swirl run and interact rather than painting something that is a picture of something. There is a whole ritual around setting up the play invitation that I find quite appealing too, I need to find a nice small glass jug and some glass jars so Puddle can be more in controle of the setting things up, which is a nice way of blending Montessori and Steiner.

I am not pro or anti the monarchy but our village had a jubilee celebration and as I am very pro village and community we went along. Yetti lasted about 4 minutes and decided to pootle up to the allotment.

Puddles and I enjoyed our stay, playing bowls, thou he keeped moving the jack. Throwing a bean bag in a hoop, and my favorite decorating a crown. I sat and had a nice chat with the C the lady who was organising the arts and crafts. Her husband had organised the sports but the kids did not want to be organised and scattered with variouse equiptment!

Puddles also had fun playing at the park going up and down the slides alot. There were some other kids running about too and he was trying so hard to join in but they were ignoring him :( poor boy.

I had set up an invitation for Tuesday consisting of circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, pentagons and hexagons cut out of sugar paper. The idea of the game was to name them and match them up so you end up with a pile of each. Puddles got board of this pretty quick and ended up gluing them instead.

Today Yetti went out to see if he could fix our car. No such luck :( It needs an expencive part and we arn't sure if its worth fixing, and we would like a car now, so Yetti is going to have a look at a car tomorow, its not an auto so I can't drive it but it will do for now! I Yetti is working on a volvo amazon auto I can't WAIT till its finnished so I can learn to drive in it! But for now we are stuck with the bus, which is great I love the bus but my mobility at the moment has taken a plumet and getting to the bus stop is a feet in itself. I think my mobility scooter will have to come our of retirement for a while, so I can get to the allotment and park and get Puddles to nursery.

Talking about nursery, or preschool or what ever you want to call it. Puddles is going two afternoons a week. Its a great nursery that's totaly play based, and all the ages are in together which I love. He goes to play with other kids as I am really not up to going to mum and baby groups at the moment, and so I can do some book binding or rest and Yetti can go and play with his cars if I am ok to be left. It's working for us at the moment, but we arn't look at it as school and so we are doing our pre school work at home :).

I was worried that all his friends would be going off to the big school and he would be the only one who wasn't, but it seams lots of kids go to schools in other villages so he won't be the only one not going with his friends. In the mean time I hope he makes friends at the HE Group.

Today Puddles did his first drawing of Yetti.

You cant see it well but there are eyes nose and mouth and his right hand has fingers ! I'm so pleased with this drawing progression!

Scary turned wonderful

Today I had Puddles on my own for 6 hours. This is a HUGE achievement for me as generally I can't be with out Yetti for more than three hours with out going mental.

Our day when like this :

Playing hiding under the duvet in bed until I was awake enough for us to go down stairs.

I drew lots of number 12s in bubble letters so Puddles could paint them in. He can recognise 1-10 really well so now we are working on 11-20. I can't remember why I didn't start with 11.....

Puddles played on the Numtums game online while I drew dotted lines on some paper in the shape of numbers one to ten. I put this sheet in a plastic pocket (the things you have lots of in a folder to protect each sheet). Puddles then used a white board dry erase pen to join up the dots to make letters .

This worked really well, both Puddles and I were really happy with the results. He was espeshally pleased with his number 5 and requested a photo be taken of it! So here it is!

After a while I could see he'd lost interest when he started being very scribbley.

He went to the sofa and asked to watch numtums but I am trying to reduce his screen time and I knew later on in the day I would be exhasuted, so wanted to save the screen time for then, So he settled for cutting up a painting he'd done a few days ago with his new scissors.

We then moved back to the messy mat, (A wonderfull peice of oil cloth in an ice cream print) and glued the newly cut bits of painting to some paper. Puddles did a picture of an elephant and an octopus. :)

I desided to have a quick test of his number recognition on 1-10 by using the flip side of the page of numbers he'd been drawing on earlyer. I wrote 1-10 jumbled up on the page and asked him to rub out random numbers. He did really well, I'm sure he's got those numbers nailed.

This was followed by glueing and glitter! Puddles has never had shakey glitter befor so he was extatic about them! I ended up putting chopped up card in the lid of the shakers to cover most of the holes or it would have gone even more all over the place than it already did! Messy mat, paper and child compleatly covered in glitter.

Now it was cooking time, we cooked some play dough

1 cup of  water
1 cup of salt
1/2 a cup of flour
On a high heat on the hob untill it came together in a ball.

I had to add about another half cup of flour to make it come together.

I rolled the play dough in the glitter on the mat for sparkley playdough (and a quick way to clean up!)

The play dough was some snakes and then snails and Puddles told me birds eat snails, I didn't know he knew that!

Puddles also enjoyed cutting the play dough with scissors.

By this time we were tired so we snuggled down to watch Cars, and I rang my mum to say happy birthday. Puddles got board of cars part way through so we watched the ever popular Octonauts on Iplayer.

We had JUST started cooking tea when The Yetti came home and we had meat free flat sausages rice egg and peas for tea!

Now its time for bed! Good night!

Small achivements

Hello all

I Sorry about not posting in a while, nothing much to say!

I am really struggling both mentally and physically so planting up some leeks, thou most had died :(, and planting more leeks straight in to the beds, really took it out of me. I planted up the Waltham squashes between the corn  part of a plant guild called the three sisters, should have put beans in there too, but they have their own tipee.

I have also put away Puddles' books and tidy'd a side board.

finding a paper cutter

Todays task is to find somewhere to get my bok blocks cut down. The best so far are Quoin 01572 770044 in Oakham.

£6 for 5 10 = 9.60 15 = 12.60

But 01476 591 898 was very helpfull, and said he could do the books while I waited, 10 books for £10.

Project 365

This year I will do a project 365, a photo for every day of the year. Mostly of Puddles. Yesterday I took Puddles to the park on my own. This was a huge achievement for me! At the moment if I get down stairs and dressed its an achievement. So we went and I let Puddles stop to look at every leaf, brick and manhole cover that he wanted too. I really struggle with stopping and enjoying the journey, but It was great fun, we ended up chasing each other around a manhole cover.

Puddles stopped outside the pub pointing to what I thought was the window getting very excited. I couldn't see what he was on about untill I crouched to his level and spotted the source of the excitement. This lovely ladybird.

Puddles legs gave up on him just before we gotto the park so he went in the buggy. Puddles has developed a fear of some of the play equiptment so I had to go on the bridge and slide with him which was fun, then we played on both the baby swing then with Puddles on my knee on the big swings. I loved it, I will make a bigger effeort more to take him out. We Played at the park for about 20 minutes before Yetti arrived. It was so nice to be outdoors haveing a giggle with my tiny tribe.

Today, the first of Jan I had a alot of trouble getting out of bed. I got up around 2 and Puddles and I blew bubbles. He has learned to catch bubbles with the bubble wand then you can blow more bubbles from that one bubble. It amazed me what he notices me doing then copies. Yetti and puddles went to my inlaws while I had a bit of a tidy befor dinner. I did the sitting room (including hoovering!) and some of the stairs. I cooked a bean chilli for tea which was yummy. I tryed the new easy cook rice which tasted odd so I melted butter on it. Was yummy. Puddles desided 6 45pm was bed time and fell asleep very easily with his teddy. I love him x

Happy near year!

Happy near year lovely readers.

This year is the year of happyness and productivity!

I am going to really give my book binding and enemeling business REAL GO! These are a few things I need to do.

Order banana paper
Order recycled mill board
Order more coloured paper for coveres
Order Gems to go on the front.

I need to finish the guitar book and make another seeing if I can get the same effect with the thicker black paper as that would make my book stronger.

I am watching dave gormans googlewack adventures at the moment. I have seen this so many times but I love it.
